What makes these cats so different than other cats?
Q: What is an Exotic Shorthair (ESH)?
A:
Simplest answer is: short haired Persian. By crossing the Persian and shorthair cats the look of the Persian with short hair was created.
Q: What is a Longhair Exotic (LHX)?
A:
Because the breed Exotic was created by crossing Persians and American Shorthair, Burmese and other shorthair breeds, the longhair gene is still present. Thus, every litter has the possibility of long and short-hair kittens:)
Q: What is their Temperament?
A:
Since there are some short hair breeds in the Exotics background, they usually are somewhat more active than the Persian, but still are closest in temperament to the Persian. Believe it or not, the long hairs are more subdued than the shorthairs. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.
Q: What colors do they come in?
A:
Exotics come in the same color variety as the Persians of which there are 96 recognized colors.
See some of the colors I have had.
Q: Do they shed?
A:
Yes. Exotics have a double thick coat-that is what makes it so plush. Their undercoat sheds in the spring every year. Weekly brushing or even monthly baths cut down on the shedding.
Q: What makes these cats so different than other cats?
A:
Because in our breeding programs we strive for certain attributes and one is their easy going, laid back personality. Exotics are known for that and you know you will not end up with a cat that constantly climbs the curtains or is in the cupboards constantly or hyper. (Read question #2 also...within this attribute are many personalities.)
